There is a specific kind of confusion that comes with loving a man who is already halfway out the door.
He is still there and present enough that you cannot point to anything concrete and say, this is the problem but something feels off.
And the part that keeps you up at night is not knowing whether what you are sensing is real or whether you are just being paranoid.
Most times, it is real.
And the clearest place to look is not what he says but what he consistently does.
Because a man’s habits always tell you where the relationship is going long before he does.
If Your Man Has These 7 Habits, He’ll Eventually Abandon You
1. He is not emotionally available
A man who is emotionally unavailable will always feel slightly out of reach.
You will just never know where you stand with him or what he feels about you.
For instance, you can be with him, talk to him, even laugh with him, but he is absent when it comes to depth.
Nobody can build a future with that kind of distance.
To build a real future, you need more emotional presence than even physical proximity.
People have survived long-distance relationships, but no relationship can survive emotional disconnection.
That means if your man is unable to give you that emotional intimacy, it is only a matter of time before the relationship breaks down, because he will soon leave.
See, I always tell women that when a man wants you and wants to commit to you, you won’t doubt it.
He will lean in and want to understand you; he will also want to be known by you.
So, when a man is keeping you at arm’s length, he is likely already creating an exit route.
And unless something changes, you will one day look back and not see him again.
2. He does not share his resources
You’re probably reading this, wondering why this is even part of the points.
What does sharing resources have to do with abandonment?
Well, I’ll explain.
The truth is that if a man cannot share his resources with you, he will struggle to share his life with you.
Because money, time, and energy are all big deals; they represent our sacrifice.
Like my mentor once said, “Your money is your life.”
You worked for it, you gave something up for it.
If you can willingly give it to someone, it shows that you will be magnanimous to them in other ways.
The same is true, on the other hand.
If your man is always holding back, always calculating, always keeping things separate, it shows a mindset of “me before us.”
And that mindset is one of a man who isn’t committed to you.
A committed man gives, not recklessly, but willingly because he sees you as part of his life and not an outsider.
But a man who will eventually leave you will show it by how much he withholds his resources from you.
3. He prioritizes others over you
The problem with this is that it is not so obvious.
He could always use the excuse of work or even meeting friends and family, and you won’t think much of it.
As a reasonable girlfriend, you might even question yourself for complaining when you start to notice an issue with it, because on the surface, you shouldn’t have a problem with him focusing on work or spending time with loved ones.
But when you look beyond the surface and trust your gut, you will see that you are not considered a priority.
If you find yourself always adjusting, always waiting, always coming second, you are in this situation.
It shows that he doesn’t care for you; at least, not enough to make room for you.
Now, while a man who loves you and wants to be with you may not be able to make room for you perfectly, you will see that he’s intentional towards making it happen.
If you don’t see that, you’re dealing with a man who doesn’t care.
And very soon, he’s going to show you he doesn’t care by abandoning you.
4. He doesn’t make any plans for the future
When a man never talks about the future or evades the discussion when you bring it up, it is because he doesn’t see you in his future.
It is really that simple.
He’s focusing on the present because that’s all that matters to him.
I don’t even think I need to dwell so much on this because it’s quite straightforward.
When a man never talks about the future, he is only here for now, and one day, he’s going to go ahead with his plan to dip.
5. He puts no effort into the relationship
Effort is what keeps relationships alive.
So when a man doesn’t try or doesn’t put any effort into showing up or into the little things, it’s a clear sign he doesn’t care about the survival of the relationship.
If a man is not planning to abandon you halfway, he invests in the relationship.
If he doesn’t, he doesn’t care whether the relationship lasts or not.
It means he will likely get tired of pretending sometime and disappear.
6. He is jealous of you
The worst kind of man to be with is an enemy of progress; a man who’s jealous of your achievement.
This man might even have feelings for you at first and may be initially willing to make it work.
But once he notices that you are doing well, he might start getting resentful, which can lead him to start disconnecting from you.
The way to know is if your man never supports you, never applauds your achievements, but talks down on them and shows discomfort when you’re doing well.
If he keeps doing that, just know you are with a man who is intimidated by your success.
And that kind of man will not be able to stay with you.
Some day, he will no longer be able to take it – especially if you keep growing – and he will abandon you.
7. He has unresolved abandonment wounds
Some men carry deep wounds from being abandoned by people they loved, like their parents, caregivers, and past partners.
And if they’ve not healed, they will keep expecting it to happen again.
So they will never fully attach, and they may unknowingly sabotage the relationship.
Granted, it’s a defense mechanism, but the result is the same.
As long as the man doesn’t recognize his trauma and seek healing, he will try to beat you to abandonment.
That means, he has convinced himself you will leave.
So, he will leave before you do.
