8 Signs Your Husband Is Living A Double Life

Sharing is caring!

I know some people will disagree that a married couple shouldn’t have privacy at all.

But some couples have agreed boundaries for each other as individuals; they believe that each of them is allowed some level of privacy.

If you fall into the latter category, your husband’s valuing that privacy is not the bone of contention here.

The issue here is a man who is actively hiding parts of his life from you, parts that you should be privy to as his wife.

Whether or not y’all practice to-be-naked-and-unashamed, we are all entitled to knowing certain aspects about each other in a married union.

So, if you think your husband is living another life apart from the one you know of, you have the right to confirm if your suspicions are right.

8 Signs Your Husband Is Living A Double Life

1. He is extremely secretive

Signs Your Husband Is Living A Double Life

Again, I am not talking about healthy boundaries.

Some level of privacy is fine, and some might argue, healthy.

So, that’s not what I’m talking about; I’m talking about a situation where he hides everything.

See, friends – heck, even acquaintances – know certain things about each other.

That’s why I can never understand when a woman doesn’t know important things about her spouse.

For instance, it’s not normal for your man’s financial state to be hidden; it shouldn’t feel like classified information.

His financial information affects you; that’s not something that should be hidden from you.

Also, why does your man have friends that you barely know, and why do simple questions about his day come with vague answers?

A man who is fully present and faithful does not move like that.

He may not tell you every detail, but you will never feel shut out.

However, with a secretive man, there is always a wall, and it is often palpable

You will just know that it is like you are only allowed access to a carefully edited version of his life.

2. He has unexplained absences

A faithful man might get busy, yes.

I mean, we’re not unreasonable; we know work runs late, plans change, and life happens.

But he will keep you in the loop.

With a faithful man, you will never be left guessing where he is or why he suddenly went quiet for hours.

Now compare that to a man who disappears without warning and comes back with half explanations that do not quite land.

And when you ask, he brushes it off or makes it seem like you are making a big deal out of nothing.

Yeah, when a man starts acting like he doesn’t need to explain his absences, he is very likely living a double life.

The gaps in his time are usually filled somewhere else.

3. He treats his phone like a secret vault

There’s no bigger sign that a man is living a life that he doesn’t want you to know about than if he treats his phone like a secret vault.

For instance, if he turns his phone face down all the time, steps out to take calls, and suddenly has passwords on everything, it is not normal.

Now, let me add that I’m not advocating for suspecting your husband or needing unfettered access to his phone.

I’m talking more about the energy around it; the way he acts like it is a no-go area for you.

A man who has nothing to hide does not act like his phone is a ticking bomb.

So, when your husband acts like it is off-limits, it likely means there is something on there he cannot afford for you to see.

4. His stories never add up

When a man is not honest, his stories will have some inconsistencies.

For instance, he may tell you he was at one place, then later mention something that does not match.

Or the timeline will just continually feel off.

You might even find yourself trying to piece things together in your head, and it still won’t match.

In fact, you shouldn’t even get to the point where you’re trying to piece together things that are inconsistent.

Once the stories don’t add up, it is likely he is living dishonestly.

A man living honestly does not need to keep adjusting his story because his life is straightforward, so his words are too.

But when someone is juggling two lives, you will find the inconsistencies, especially if you pay attention.

5. He never shows up emotionally

Signs Your Husband Is Living A Double Life

See, it’s not difficult to know when a man is committed to you; it is honestly very easy.

You will see it clearly in the way he will want to connect to you, to understand you, and to be present.

He will also want to be known by you because he wants to be loved by you, too.

So, when all this is missing, even if he is not living a double life, it shows that he is not with you emotionally.

But particularly, when you are trying to reach him and keep failing, or this is coupled with other signs in this post, then his emotional energy is likely being invested elsewhere.

6. He is defensive

When a man turns every single question into an argument, you are likely to be with a man who is not fully committed to the marriage.

For instance, you can ask him where he is, and he will raise his voice, flip the situation, or accuse you of not trusting him.

Yes, anyone can get defensive sometimes.

But when the defensiveness and gaslighting are constant, and it feels like he is always on edge, he is probably protecting something.

An honest man may clarify, even reassure you, when you ask him a question bugging him; he won’t shut you down – at least, he won’t make a habit of it.

But a man who has something to hide will often react as though every question is an attack.

7. He is extremely critical

I know it can be difficult not to internalize this behavior if you are in this situation, because we are talking about your spouse here.

So, when they keep criticizing you, you’re likely to feel like something is wrong with you.

But I need you to know that this behavior often has nothing to do with you.

He is doing it because it makes it easier for him to justify what he is doing.

If he convinces himself that you are the problem, it makes it easier to maintain his other life.

So, don’t let him make you feel you have a problem; he is likely projecting or acting out due to his guilt of living a double life.

8. He overcompensates

This one can feel confusing because you may think he’s being loving.

But one way to know it’s not sincere is if he suddenly shows up with gifts, affection, and attention, right when you start to feel something is off.

If he does that, he is likely trying to make up for something.

Another way to know is if you know in your gut that something is wrong, despite the excessive display of affection and attention.

I get that some people are insecure, and that could lead to you being paranoid.

But if you know you’re honestly not being insecure, then it is worth investigating when you feel something is off deep in your gut.
