12 New Year Resolutions That Will Completely Change Your Life

Sharing is caring!

It is going to be a new year in a few weeks and while, it is really just another day and another date, it usually signifies a new beginning.

In numbering our days, a new year signifies the chance to start over and make new year resolutions that will either make or mar us.

This 2020, how do you want to start and even spend the year? Do you want to look back at the year in December and be full of joy for what you experienced or do you want to be filled with regrets?

Then, you need to make New Year resolutions that will completely change your life.

1. Commit To A Healthy Lifestyle

“Health is wealth”. The importance of a healthy lifestyle cannot be overemphasised. Living healthy should definitely be one of your new year resolutions.

Not only does it keep you healthy, but it also keeps you fit to do all you have set out to accomplish on earth. You shouldn’t be worried about how fit you are to carry out certain activities and that is why you should resolve to commit to a healthy lifestyle.

Drink more water.

Eat more fruits and vegetables

Register in a gym, exercise at home or at least, be intentional about not living a sedentary lifestyle.

2. Worry Less

Worrying has never helped anybody. Sometimes, we deceive ourselves into thinking the more we think about a problem, the more serious we are about the problem.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Worrying profits nothing; we just succeed in wasting our time.

This does not mean you shouldn’t think up a solution to problems but if it is something you cannot change, let it go.

Don’t dwell on issues you cannot change and definitely don’t dwell on the past. Instead, develop a positive outlook on life and watch it take care of itself.

3. Practice Time Management

One of the greatest enemies of our productivity is the lack of time management.

It is not about working all the time and having no time to rest. No, it is about doing even the right things at the wrong time.

Make a resolve to do the right things at the right time; pick a time to play, a time to be with family, a time to sleep, a time to be alone, a time to work and stick to it.

Self-discipline to achieve this is very important.

4. Practice Money Management

You want to make sure that you are experiencing a boost financially; the next year should be better than the present.

But these things don’t come just like that; one has to work on it. You have to make an effort to save more, invest more, spend less on luxury and focus more on your needs.

It is important to learn to practice delay gratification if one wants to do well financially.

5. Pursue Excellence

We all want our work to speak for us and the only way our work can really speak for us is if we attend to it with excellence.

I always say that the best form of marketing is referrals. Traditional and digital marketing has its place but people will likely be more willing to patronise you when someone they know and trust speaks well of you.

And even if you are in employment, promotion and bonuses are largely based on how hard you work for it.

Don’t settle for mediocrity; pursue excellence.

6. Practice Digital Detox

Social media is a very effective tool and we should indeed take advantage of it.

However, it can also be harmful in the sense that it can become addictive, makes us less productive and also affects human interactions.

This is why it is pertinent to practice digital detox. You can decide to do it daily for certain hours or weekly for certain days or just once in a while where you stay away from social media.

You can use that period to catch up on work, self-reflect and enjoy people.

7. Learn To Say No

Learning to say no is one of the new year resolutions to take really seriously. Let me state clearly that I am not saying you should go about telling people no. What I am saying is that you should be able to say no when you actually mean no.

There are many of us who can never say no to things because we want everybody to like us or we just don’t have the heart to reject them.

But you cannot take on everything; you will only break down. If you know you should say no, please say no because there is really no way you can please everybody even if you say yes to everybody.

8. Invest In Healthy Relationships

Being around people who care about you cannot be overemphasised. Don’t stay away from people; no man is an island and we all need somebody.

Nurture healthy relationships; don’t push them away and don’t refuse to do your part.

A relationship is a two-way street. A healthy relationship is symbiotic; give and take. As you are taking, give.

9. Network And Sell Yourself

Nobody can sell you better than you can sell yourself.

Don’t stay away from the gathering of people with like-minds or people in the same industry as you are.

Make a deliberate effort to network and take every opportunity to sell yourself; you never know who is listening.

10. Love Yourself And Others

Love yourself; treat yourself kindly. Yes, you are worth it. Yes, you deserve it.

Also, show love to others; love is what makes the world go around. We all need love; be a source of love to people around you.

11. Smile And Play More

A smile can change not only your life but the life of others. People who smile more are likely to live longer because their heart is full of happiness and cheerfulness.

Yes, life can throw curveballs but not smiling will not change anything; so why not smile?

Play more as well. All work and no play makes Jack and Jill dull people. Work hard but also play hard.

12. Give back

There is something beautiful giving back does to us. You might think you don’t have too much but there are people who will rejoice over what you have.

Even if you don’t have money, you can volunteer your service or even your smile.

Making someone happy will definitely make you happier.
