A lot of people may find it hard to wake up early, even as early as 5:30 in the morning. This is a bit difficult because people don’t get to sleep early enough to be able to wake up strong.
There is this popular saying “Early to bed, Early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. Adults needs 7-9 hours of sleep per night in order to function at their best.
But, unfortunately, most of us don’t get as much as that, especially these days that people work longer hours to make ends meet.
I haven’t always been an early sleeper as I have to juggle being a student and a nursing mother. Recently, I realized that sleeping earlier would make me wake up as early as 5:30 and this habit has done me better than I can imagine.
Here are ways in which waking up at 5:30am has changed my life
- Makes me more physically fit
I didn’t have time for exercises when I used to wake up at 7:00am or thereabout, because I get to rush my morning routine and head for work. But I started to devote time for my early morning walk at 5:45am to 6:15 when I began to wake up at 5:30am, this habit has made me more fit physically.
- I have more quality sleep
Having to wake up at 5:30am has helped me develop a good sleep routine, which has helped me get more quality sleep. I realized I didn’t have to sleep more than 9hours to wake up sound, because sleeping in time prevents so many illnesses like sleeping disorder, obesity, high cholesterol and others.
- Increase in productivity
Waking up at 5:30am has increased my productivity on a daily basis, because it boost my organizational skills. I can’t afford to wake up as early as that to waste away time. So, I have developed a morning routine ranging from having my morning devotion, to having exercise, preparing the kids and myself for work including the house chores. I stopped “being busy doing nothing”, but rather make judicious use of my time and get a lot of things done.
- I stopped getting worry
I didn’t have to rush to work, nor drop the kids at school/daycare in a haste. Since I now have more time to properly sort things out in the morning and steadily drive down without arriving those places looking disorganized and grumpy.
- It heightens my self confidence
Waking up at 5:30am gives me a kind of motivation that gives me the needed confidence to pull through each day, knowing that I would achieve all my goals set for the day. Since I’m able to start each day on a good note by taking things cool.y morning exercises make me proud of my body.
- I enjoy the serenity in my environment
There is this peace that comes to my mind waking up at 5:30am, feeling the calmness in the environment, not having to bother about many of the cars in transit honking, or the cries of babies, or sounds from the television. I’m able to focus on peacefully going about my morning routine before everyone wakes up to the hustle and bustle of the day.
- My stress has greatly reduced
Waking up at 5:30am has decreased my stress because I really don’t have to bother about most things. I can logically and clearly approach issues without the fear of not meeting up with expectations. With time, my body has gotten used to waking up at 5:30am and I didn’t have to set alarm to wake up in the morning.
- I’m able to build discipline
The fact that I could change my sleeping pattern and cultivate the habit of sleeping earlier and waking up at 5:30am has not just improved the quality of sleep I get, but has improved my life. Now I know that anything is achievable as far as I am determined to get things done and set my priorities right.
I am certain that everyone can inculcate this routine of sleeping early and waking up early, because everyone that practice this would share the benefits they have derived when asked.
Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, according to Forbes, once said in a lecture session that he starts his work days around 5am. He said he can be very productive and get a lot done at this time, including having his haircut at 6:00am when needed.
Dangote talked about how he tries to fit in time to exercise most mornings, which helps him prevent stress.
“Exercise is better than any medicine I can take,” he said during the lecture. “Exercise and sleep.”
So, everyone who equally wants to have a balanced and productive life while securing the bag should try waking up at 5:30am after getting the needed night rest.
